3 out of 5 stars It is not compatible with Nuvi 3790T!!   August 3, 2010
SHAYGY
well simply the new Nuvi 3790T doesn't support the Southeast Asia maps, neither Singapore and Malaysia!
I've E mailed Garmin and they don't know when the new southeast Asia map is going to be released!!

So if you have Nuvi #790T and you want to buy the southeast asia map ... make sure that it is compatible with your device!!

2 out of 5 stars Problems with 3rd World Countries   February 8, 2010

While Garmin does it's best, life on the ground seems to have changed when compared to what the Garmin knows about it.

While this isn't uncommon even in the less traveled areas of the US, MOST of SE Asia is very remote, so you end up with a collection of places, most of which are either shuttered or are simply something else.

And in countries where most of the business are unregistered, getting to the hotel or restaurant on the Garmin often leads you through backroads behind Hotels and Restaurants that are just as good or BETTER than the ones you are looking for.

Unlike the US where businesses register and keep their electronic and goverment information up-to-date, SE Asia is the opposite (for tax and cultural reasons) and this turns the Garmin more into a 2nd or 3rd reference.

Where it excels is with the Big Business, the places that don't move, but once again, for some reason it leaves out VAST amounts of business. If it was at LEAST as good as the Lonely Planet Guide, I'd consider it worth the money, but as it is, I consider it a waste.

Maybe Garmin should get together with Lonely Planet and offer a Lonely Planet's Road Guide? Because as it is I found it useless when compared to it's US Version.

3 out of 5 stars Navigating Thailand Just Got Easy?   November 1, 2009

Dealings with Amazon went well as usual.

Re: the product -- Still haven't put in real world action. Outof the box it installed the Thailand Maps into my Garmin Nuvi 270. Lots of detail on the map but the search function couldn't locate a city of 100,000 --- could be my bottom end Garmin unit? but for a GPS MAP combination that lists for over $400 I would expect more. Every location I needed to locate was on the map but I spent hours comparing Google's map with my Garmin in order to save my intended destinations. If didn't have an external map and lots of time it would have been useless. Perhaps had my search been on location in Thailand the search function might have worked??

My research says it is the only maping redaly available -- so it doesn't get any better than this.
I have no idea how well it will rout me to my destinations --- I will know in a month.

4 out of 5 stars Good Map to use in SouthEast Asia   February 10, 2009

I used the map in Malaysia at the moment, it considered comprehensive and covered most of the street in KL and Klang Valley in details. I once did the cross-state drive along the west Malaysia coast line, it managed to bring me to destination without any problems.

1 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS ITEM!!!   January 16, 2009

I bought this item (GARMIN 010-11114-00 City Navigator Southeast Asia NT) in July of 2008 for travel in Thailand and Malaysia. Let's just say that I was driving on roads/streets/highways that doesn't even exist on this map. I don't mean traveling on a "newly" built roads/streets/highways. I mean the roads/streets/highways existed 10 to 15 years ago. Some existed decades ago!!! And some doesn't even exist anymore. I once set a destination for a well known seafood restaurant and the map took me to a dead-ended street and to cross the water to get to the restaurant. And no the roadway was not flooded!!! And how do I know about these existent you might ask. Well, I don't. But my family that lives there does. The information and detail in this map need to be updated. Don't waste your money on this product until Garmin update it. Currently, this is version 3.
Another thing, the English translation of the local names will have you pee in your pants from laughing so hard. Have you ever heard of Tinglish? Thai+English=Tinglish
Maybe you should buy this product for the laughs it generate and new and exciting adventure that await you when you're in a hurry to get to your destination.
Best regard,
Steve
