For a Garmin nuvi 660, this connector MUST be used with a cradle. It cannot plug into the unit directly, despite the reassuring listed description: "Utilizing a proprietary 18-pin connector that connects either directly to the GPS or through the Garmin cradle, this cable is guranteed to be 100% compatible with your Garmin GPS."
Returned it for this reason. Many mini USB car adapters do not work either because it is not a standard mini USB. Yes, it's a non-universal universal serial bus. You have to jumper two pins together in a standard mini USB, replace a resistor, or buy a special garmin-specific car adapter. What do you think most people are gonna do?

I have used the Gilsson adapter several times in my 760 Nuvi. No problems. It works as advertised. It actually works better on my motorcycle than the original Garmin did. The Gilsson is shorter than the orginal Garmin and elminates some clearance problems that I had.

I experienced the same problem that many respondents discussed with the end that goes into the lighter socket coming apart and I could not find all the parts. This replacement works with connectivity and is functional, but the cable is very stiff and does not drape and route neatly like the original did.
